Abstract Esther Miriam Andreen was born on September 4, 1896 in New Haven, Connecticut to parents Gustav and Marie Andreen. Her father became the fourth president of Augustana College in 1901. Albrecht had two older brothers, Paul and Marion, and two younger, Gustav and Carl. She attended the Augustana Academy from 1908 to 1914, and enrolled at Augustana College in the fall of 1914, where she studied Modern Languages.
